The concert was virtually sold out with only a few seats remaining.

The music was greatly appreciated by the audience : the singers,the pianist and the director were given a five minute standing ovation.

 

TV crew filming an documentary

Yesterday afternoon there was TV crew filming a documentary on women's rights,which will broadcasted on  Tunisie 7 on March 8th,Woman's Day in Tunisia.

Earlier in the day I dropped by the 'Mille Feuilles' bookshop and the shop assistant gave me an invitation for an evening of Italian opera at the Acropolium in Carthage.

I had dinner at the Japanese restaurant 'Origami';the restaurant was full,with mostly couples but were they all celebrating Valentine's Day?

Tense Tunisia as funeral of Chokri Belaidi takes place

This afternoon Chrokri Belaidi was buried amid continuing tensions and a General Strike,called by the main trade union in protest against the current government.On Wednesday evening the Prime Minister tried to dissolve the cabinet and form a new one with technocrats but his party rejected his plan.There have been riots in cities thoughout Tunisia including Gafsa and Tunis,where a policeman was killed in clashes with protestors.An ex-student of mine,who lives in Gafsa said she and her family had to stay indoors as the protestors were rioting and looting.click here for more information
