Chance and Coincidence at Dar Zarouk,Sidi Bou Said

'Chance and Coincidence' party at Dar Zarouk,Sidi Bou Said.

Met a few interesting people including an American who works for a new Tunisian news web site and a journalist who works for a Reuters-like news agency.

The host Lilia Ben spoke Spanish so I spoke to her mostly in Spanish.

Teaching English Radio

We're back in Tunis for programme 5 of  Teaching English Radio!
This month the topic was 'Teaching Listening'.

Getting Ready and Deep in Thought!

On the programme the teachers discussed finding a variety of materials to help students practise listening.
If there is an audio problem teachers can act out the tape scripts from the book or adapt and create new listening texts. When we are able to record and play audio in class, there are many possibilities- including recording native speakers or playing clips from radio programmes.

Students need a purpose for listening- with activities before, during and after listening.
There are sub-skills we can practise; for example predicting, listening for the main idea or listening for specific details.

We heard demonstration of using radio clips such as the weather forecast. The text was authentic but the task was at the students’ level even though the content might seem too difficult.

In the studio the studio audience demonstrated the describe and draw activity;each person had to dran an animal then describe their picture and the other person had to listen carefully and draw the animal, finally they compared and checked their pictures.Ines drew a cat whilst Patric did a picture of a shark swimming towards an island! This speaking and listening activity is also good for those kinaesthetic/visual learners!

Getting visitors or colleagues to walk into a classroom allows students to do real interviews in English.
Thanks for listening! Bye!

Hope you enjoyed the programme! Well it's goodbye until the next programme!

The Crazy Bald Head Tour

Sinead O' Connor live at the Jazz at Carthage festival.

Yes,Sinead isn't a jazz musician nevertheless with all the different acts under the umbrella of jazz she made her appearance at a concert the Hotel Barcelo Thallaso in Gammarth.

She was in fine form with her voice as strong as ever and mellow and sweet on the ballads.
Never one to be boring Sinead ended the concert with a encore which basically consisted of a sermon-like song and a prayer song.In fact she was even dressed as a priest in her all black outfit, white collar and crucifix
dangling in front of her, a couple of times during the concert it seemed to be tangled up with the ear phone lead that connected to the portable microphone device clipped to her waist.

Imen got married on a Sunday

Imen got married on a Sunday at Tophappiness in Berges du Lac.
It was a nice sunny day so no risk of that white dress getting soaked!
Recently the weather has been a bit unpredictable these days!
Is it really spring?!
Is this really Tunisia?!

Anyway,Imen looked stunning in her wedding dress!
In fact at first I didn't recognise her.
